HAZOP / Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) and LOPA
Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOP) and Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA) are commonly used in order to demonstrate that all potential causes have been covered by a project and all potential consequences are acceptably mitigated. High consequence events are analysed deeper via LOPA and key safeguards are interrogated with further integrity levels assigned (if required).

SCW Engineering can provide experienced chair/facilitators and independent process engineers to support, run and document HAZOP/LOPA studies. Our engineers have experience with a range of software (AE shield/facilitator, PHA-Pro, PHA-works, etc)
Our common services provided are as follows:
-
HAZOP/LOPA Facilitation (from terms of reference, hosting studies and issuing/updating HAZOP/LOPA reports)
-
HAZOP/LOPA Scribe provision
-
Independent Process Engineer provision
-
Setting up HAZOP action management work processes
-
IEC61511/61508 compliance
-
Early project phase coarse LOPA checks of key hazards to check IL ratings likely to be required (For example, assessment of requirements associated
-
with fully rated system vs single IL rated item vs two parallel IL rated items)
-
Revalidation HAZOP/LOPAs to develop/audit/review existing Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) and IL rated equipment on change of operating
-
mode/conditions
-
P&ID reviews at concept phase in preparation for HAZOP readiness assessment
