HAZID/ENVID Studies and ALARP Workshops
Hazard Identification (HAZID) and Environmental hazard Identification (ENVID) are often performed in early project life to ensure that hazards are identified early. This allows effective hazard management for key hazards at the earliest time when changes are easier (and cheaper) to implement.

In the UK HAZID/ENVID is a key enabler for development of the Safety report and Safety case for high hazard industries, development of the major accident hazard (MAH) register is a key requirement. Often, the HAZID/ENVID will identify key MAH risks that have many methods of mitigation at a range of project costs/impacts. ALARP (As Low As Reasonably Practicable) studies are useful for demonstrating to the local competent authority that the project has taken the most reasonable approach and has considered all options.
